Jazz Quartet New-Centropezn is well known not only in Russia but also in Europe, specifically in Germany, Belgium, and Spain. They have been collaborating with the prominent jazz vocalists such as Dennis Rowland, J.D. Walter and Fay Victor, saxophonists Jerry Bergonzi and Uwe Plath, accordionists Art Van Damme and Alexander Poyeluev.
The Quartet consists of virtuoso musicians, graduates of the Jazz Faculty of Rostov-on-Don State Rachmaninov Conservatory (Russia). Their first get together in 1988 while studying at the Rostov College of Arts. At that time nobody thought that the Band would gain such a popularity and success. Over the next 20 years the Quartet has became an outstanding ensemble of excellent soloists. Some of their most significant artistic achievements are:
In 1994 Quartet the Prize and the title of the Youngest and most Promising Group at the Euro-Jazz 94 in Brussels, Belgium.
In 1995 Quartet Grand-Prix and the title of the European Young Jazz Artists of the 1995 at the 14th European Contest of Young Jazz Groups in Leverkusen, Germany.
In 1998 Quartet the Audience’s Choice Award at the XXII European Jazz Contest in Getxo, Spain.
In 1995 the members of Jazz Quartet New-Centropezn founder the first in Russia Jazz School for children of age 3 and up: Aram Rustamyants is the principal director; Andrey Machnev is the artistic director of the Children Big Band, and Vitalii Perov tutor teaches electric bass and double-bass, while Grigory Deratsuev leads drums and percussion classes.
Since 2001, Jazz Quartet New-Centropezn forms a rhythm section of Kim Nazaretov Municipal Jazz Orchestra, taking part in all their projects.
Into 2004 Ensemble becomes part of the International “Rostov-Dortmund
Jazz Quartet New-Centropezn released 4 CDs: “Breath-taking Breeze” (1998), “Next Step” (2003), “Jazz Fairland” (2007) and «We are 20», New-Centropezn jazz quartet &… special guests (2008).
Their albums feature original acoustic and electric compositions.
